This June 14, residents and visitors in Metro Manila will have the unique opportunity to exchange a cucumber for a refreshing Hendrick’s Gin and Tonic at over 50 participating bars across the city. This unusual transaction, dubbed the Cucumber Currency Exchange, adds a playful twist to the typical bar experience by allowing patrons to trade the crisp green fruit for a refreshing drink—no cash or credit cards necessary.

The event celebrates World Cucumber Day, an annual global homage by the brand to its most distinctive muse. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on that Friday, Hendrick’s Gin invites drinkers to join in this quirky celebration at some of Metro Manila's most esteemed bars.

Charmaine Thio, the Southeast Asia regional brand ambassador for Hendrick’s Gin, expressed the essence of the event, stating, “World Cucumber Day is a celebration of its charm and the refreshing oddity that Hendrick’s brings to the glass. The cucumber has always been our muse—a quiet hero in the Hendrick’s Gin experience.” This sentiment reflects the brand’s commitment to creativity and the enjoyment of unique experiences.

In 2023, the celebration will take place in various neighborhoods, including Makati, Taguig, Pasig, San Juan, Quezon City, Marikina, Pasay, and even Laguna. Among the notable participating venues are The Curator, Dr. Wine, Spritz, Southbank, Project Vino, and Lampara, each of which promises a delightful atmosphere for attendees.

In addition to the gin and tonic exchange, select bars—including From Management, Eraya, and Spritz—will offer guests complimentary tarot card readings. This added touch of mystical flair runs from June 12 to June 14, and any customer who purchases two Hendrick’s cocktails will be eligible for a reading, enhancing the playful spirit of the occasion.

Beyond the vibrant bar scene, the celebration of World Cucumber Day can also be enjoyed at home.
