MANILA, Philippines — In a significant address on Tuesday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appealed to the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) to play an essential role in enhancing the Philippines' bilateral relations with China, emphasizing the need to position the country as a reliable partner for economic growth.

Speaking during the oath-taking ceremony for the new officers of the FFCCCII held in Binondo, a historic district in Manila known for its Chinese heritage, Marcos acknowledged the federation's pivotal role over the past seven decades in fostering commerce, education, and community service throughout the nation.

"You are uniquely positioned to help deepen our international partnerships, particularly, of course, with China. Stronger ties mean better trade, greater investments, and enhanced collaboration," Marcos stated. His remarks come at a time when the Philippines is looking to bolster its economic ties with one of its closest neighbors, which has emerged as a significant trade partner for the country.

Marcos further encouraged the FFCCCII to promote small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), stressing their importance in the push towards inclusive economic growth. "Your leadership should not only focus on large enterprises. It is just as crucial that you empower small and medium-sized businesses. By uplifting them, you are also uplifting the entire economy and the entire nation," he said, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that benefits all sectors of society.

Recognizing the long-standing contributions of the FFCCCII to both commerce and national development, the President urged the federation to spearhead innovation within the country’s industries. "I challenge you now to lead with clarity. Steer our industries towards innovative strategies that are globally competitive, sustainable, and ready for the future," he encouraged, pointing out the vital role of innovation in a rapidly changing global economic landscape.

Established in 1954, the FFCCCII holds the distinction of being the largest organization representing Chinese-Filipino businessmen, serving as a crucial private sector partner for the government in its national development efforts. The federation not only advocates for business and economic growth but also engages in various philanthropic and civic initiatives aimed at community enhancement.

Among the recent projects undertaken by the organization are the illuminating renovations of the historic Jones Bridge and continued beautification efforts in the Binondo Chinatown district, both aimed at preserving the rich cultural heritage of the area. These efforts highlight the federation's commitment to both business and community development.

During the event, the FFCCCII also presented President Marcos with a scale model of a two-classroom school building, reaffirming its dedication to social responsibility. This donation is part of the federation's long-standing "Operation: Barrio Schools" program, which has successfully constructed over 6,500 public school buildings across the Philippines to help bridge educational gaps in underserved communities.
