ILOILO CITY – In response to the escalating tensions and ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, the provincial government of Iloilo has launched a critical initiative known as "Operation Bulig." This 24/7 hotline is dedicated to offering support and assistance to Ilonggo overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families who may be affected by the crisis. The aim of the hotline is to ensure that families of OFWs can reach out for help and receive the necessary support during this tumultuous time.

Cynthia Dario, the manager of the Iloilo Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO), emphasized the importance of community coordination in her remarks on Monday. Since the outbreak of the conflict, PESO has been actively engaging with barangay PESO coordinators, municipal PESO managers, and OFW associations to keep tabs on Ilonggos residing in Israel. “We are working diligently to gather information about our fellow Ilonggos who may be in danger or require assistance,” Dario stated.

The implementation of "Operation Bulig Ilonggo" came about through Executive Order 2020-004, reflecting the provincial government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad. Dario mentioned that close collaboration is ongoing with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), aligning efforts with the directives of Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.

Families of OFWs in Israel who are seeking help are encouraged to reach out through several hotline numbers: 0998-990-5663, 0917-754-3833, 0961-680-4428, 0910-005-4682, and 0916-758-3156. These lines have been set up to ensure that any required assistance can be promptly provided.

The urgency of this hotline is underscored by the alarming developments in the region. Recent reports indicate that Iranian missiles have targeted various locations across central and northern Israel, resulting in tragic casualties, including the death of eight individuals and injuries to 208 others, as reported by Israeli media early Sunday. The situation escalated further as approximately 50 rockets were launched at central Israel in a recent wave of attacks. Notably, the areas of Bat Yam and Rehovot, located near Tel Aviv, were among those most affected, with reports confirming that four people lost their lives due to these strikes.

This initiative by the Iloilo provincial government showcases a proactive approach to safeguard the well-being of its citizens, demonstrating a commitment to their safety and providing a lifeline during international crises.
