What happens when a world leader decides to take on a social media influencer? You get a defamation lawsuit that’s shaking the very foundations of public discourse! French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, have filed a striking lawsuit against the controversial influencer Candace Owens, accusing her of peddling outrageous lies, including the bizarre claim that Brigitte was born male.

The lawsuit, which sprawls over an eye-popping 218 pages, was filed in Delaware and marks a historic moment — a sitting president personally pursuing legal action against a social media personality! According to a report by the Financial Times, the couple is alleging that Owens’ comments are “outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions.”

At the heart of the matter is Owens’ claim that Brigitte Macron was actually born as Jean-Michel Trogneux. But wait, it gets even wilder. The Macrons also accuse Owens of promoting a slew of conspiracy theories, one of which asserts that the couple are blood relatives and that Emmanuel Macron is the product of a CIA mind-control experiment!

In their statement, the Macrons expressed their frustration, stating, “Because Ms. Owens systematically reaffirmed these falsehoods in response to each of our attorneys’ repeated requests for a retraction, we ultimately concluded that referring the matter to a court of law was the only remaining avenue.” It's a situation that has escalated beyond mere online chatter; they are fighting back!

Owens, known for her provocative statements and vibrant social media presence, has been called out for what the Macrons describe as “substantial reputational damage” incurred as a result of her comments. They are asking for a jury trial and punitive damages, emphasizing that they’ve been forced to spend considerable funds to correct the misinformation that has been spreading.

Thomas Clare, the couple's lawyer at the defamation law firm Clare Locke, commented, “They believe it’s important to stand up for themselves... Owens has had multiple opportunities to do the right thing and in response she has only mocked them.” This case is turning personal, with the Macrons even willing to travel to Delaware to appear in court, showcasing their serious commitment to this battle.

Candace Owens is expected to address this explosive lawsuit on her podcast, making the stakes even higher. A spokesperson mentioned that she would respond to the allegations during her Wednesday show. Additionally, the lawsuit centers on Owens' eight-part series titled “Becoming Brigitte,” where she allegedly used false statements about Brigitte’s gender to boost her platform and profitability. The Macrons are insisting that her actions are not just harmful but deeply damaging to their reputation.
