Imagine tuning into your favorite music show, only to witness the shocking spectacle of two band members stripping down to nothing but their birthday suits! That's exactly what happened on July 30, 2005, during a live broadcast of Show! Music Core, marking a chaotic day in the history of Korean television that viewers still can’t forget.

Before it became known for its lively performances and chart-topping hits, Show! Music Core was originally called Live Music Camp. The show underwent a major format change in 2005, largely due to an incident so infamous it’s often referred to as the worst day in Korean live broadcast history. At that time, indie bands were rising in popularity across the country, and the show invited various groups to perform, including the indie band Rux.

On that fateful Saturday, Rux had the brilliant idea to invite fellow indie bands to join them for a special performance. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until the members of SPiKY BRATS, Oh Chang Rae and Shin Hyun Bum from the band Couch, decided to push boundaries in a way no one anticipated. Instead of the classic rock star move of removing their shirts, these two band members stripped down to their bare skin, leaving their genitals fully exposed for the entire audience and millions of viewers at home!

Despite frantic attempts by the production team to cut away from the stage, it was far too late. The shockwaves of this incident rippled through the industry as the hosts scrambled to apologize live on air. Unfortunately, the damage was done—the program was instantly canceled, and the two band members were arrested and subjected to drug tests. Fortunately, they both tested negative and received just two years of probation. However, Rux faced their own consequences for being the performing group at the time.

Following this scandalous event, MBC implemented strict measures to delay broadcasts, ensuring such an incident would never happen again. Fast forward to today, the legacy of that unforgettable day still lingers among music fans and those who remember the chaos.

Interestingly, SPiKY BRATS has continued to perform at various festivals as recently as 2025, though it seems Oh Chang Rae is no longer in the picture. The band Couch, on the other hand, disbanded shortly after the incident, while Rux managed to navigate through the storm and is still active. In 2024, Rux member Won Jong Hee even addressed the incident in a heartfelt YouTube apology, showing that while the past might have been tumultuous, they’ve continued to evolve, with Jong Hee now owning a punk label and club called Skunk Hell.

Even two decades later, the shocking events of that day remain etched in the memories of music enthusiasts, reminding us all of how live television can take unexpected – and utterly bizarre – turns.
