The Dallas Cowboys are intensively focusing on securing a contract extension for their star linebacker Micah Parsons. However, the team must also consider the impending contract situations of cornerback DaRon Bland and tight end Jake Ferguson, both of whom are entering critical contract years. In addition, the Cowboys have plans to exercise the fifth-year option on offensive lineman Tyler Smiths contract, which will keep him under contract through the 2026 season.

DaRon Bland and Jake Ferguson both had standout seasons in 2023, earning Pro Bowl honors for their exceptional performances. Bland, in particular, had a remarkable year, being named a first-team All-Pro and finishing fifth in the voting for Defensive Player of the Year. His impressive stats included leading the league with nine interceptions, which included setting an NFL record with five pick-sixes, highlighting his playmaking ability on defense.

As they eye contract extensions, both Bland and Ferguson will become eligible for new deals following the 2024 season, marking their third year in the NFL. Despite the looming contract talks, Bland has expressed his focus solely on the upcoming season and the games ahead. No talks. Just worried about the season right now, Bland stated to Tommy Yarrish from the teams website. Really just play my heart out, try to do my best out there and do whatever I can. This commitment to performance over contract discussions reflects the mindset of many athletes who prioritize their play on the field.

Last season, Bland faced challenges as he missed the first ten games due to a stress fracture in his left foot that required surgery. Despite his absence, he managed to contribute with 41 tackles and five passes defended, although he did not record any interceptions during the games he played.

On the other hand, Jake Ferguson is acutely aware that he is in a pivotal contract year. After a less than stellar performance last season, where he caught 59 passes for 494 yards and failed to score any touchdowns, he missed three games due to a concussion, which certainly impacted his statistics. Its almost like every other year, maybe a little bit more, but I know what it takes, Ferguson commented, acknowledging the pressure of needing to perform better as he steps into this crucial stage of his career.
