Qualcomm, a leading global semiconductor company, has announced impressive earnings for the second quarter of its fiscal year, revealing a significant increase in revenue that surpassed Wall Street expectations. The company reported a total revenue of $10.8 billion, marking a remarkable 15% increase compared to the same period last year.

The growth was largely driven by Qualcomms QCT segment (Qualcomm CDMA Technologies), which saw its revenue soar by 18% year-over-year to hit $9.5 billion. This surge can be attributed to a robust demand in key sectors, including handsets, automotive, and the Internet of Things (IoT). In particular, revenue from the automotive division skyrocketed by 59%, generating $959 million, while IoT revenue jumped by 27% to reach $1.58 billion.

We are pleased to report another quarter of strong results, expressed Cristiano Amon, the president and CEO of Qualcomm Incorporated. He emphasized the companys success in the handset market, where revenues totaled $6.9 billion, reflecting a 12% increase year-over-year. Qualcomm's latest chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, has been pivotal in driving this demand, with the company noting that it has secured 90 flagship designs across major Android Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), including the newly announced Motorola Razr 2025 series.

In addition to the booming sectors, Qualcomm is optimistic about the rapidly evolving Artificial Intelligence (AI) landscape. The company believes that the integration of AI in smartphones will further bolster its revenue streams, projecting a target of $22 billion in non-handset revenues by the fiscal year 2029. Qualcomm also hinted at the impending release of an upcoming XR headset powered by Snapdragon technology, without disclosing detailed specifications. The company is targeting $2 billion in XR revenues by fiscal year 2029.

Looking forward, Qualcomm anticipates continued growth in the coming quarter, expecting revenues between $9.9 billion and $10.7 billion. The QLT (Qualcomm Licensing Technologies) segment is projected to maintain revenues between $1.15 billion and $1.35 billion, while the QCD (Qualcomm CDMA Technologies) earnings, which include chips for mobile devices, automotive, and other applications, are expected to generate between $8.7 billion and $9.3 billion. This forecast indicates a potential growth of 12% compared to the same quarter last year.

During the earnings call, Qualcomm's leadership also addressed concerns regarding President Trump's tariffs and the overall volatile global trade environment. However, they conveyed a sense of optimism, stating, We do not see any material direct impact to us at this point. The landscape, obviously, is dynamic, so we're closely monitoring, but we're very focused on the things we control and on supporting our customers as well.
