Coronation Street fans are predicting a new romantic storyline for Ken Barlow, and it's not who you might think. The iconic character, played by William Roache, has been a staple on the cobbles since his debut in 1960 when Roache was just 28 years old, quickly becoming a fan favourite.
As the soap's longest-serving character, Ken has been central to many major storylines. From secret affairs to unforgettable romances, Ken's time in Weatherfield has been far from boring.
His long-lasting marriage to fellow Corrie icon Deirdre Barlow (Anne Kirkbride) is particularly memorable. The pair had a tumultuous relationship spanning several years and two marriages, before Deirdre's sad death in 2015.
However, the past year has seen Ken caught up in high drama as he discovered his carer, Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), had been secretly poisoning him, according to Leicestershire Live. Cassie started caring for Ken after a serious fall, leading to an unexpected friendship.

But things took a sinister turn when Cassie began drugging Ken, resulting in a hospital stay. Eventually, the truth came out, and Cassie's shocking actions were exposed to the entire street, reports Belfast Live.
Now, viewers are forecasting an unforeseen romantic development for Ken - with a former Coronation Street star no less.
Speculation is rife amongst Coronation Street fans who believe that Maureen Webster, portrayed by Sherrie Hewson, could be set to make a sensational return to the show as Ken Barlow's new love interest. Having originally appeared on the scene in 1993 and exiting four years later for life in Germany, Maureen briefly reappeared in 2006 but has since remained off-screen.
On a devoted Corrie fan page on Facebook, one viewer expressed eagerness for Ken's love life revival: "It's about time Ken has some romance in his life!" Echoing this enthusiasm, another fan suggested: "Bring back Sherrie Hewson's character Maureen Webster for Ken."
With similar sentiments, a third added: "Yes please I loved Maureen."
Adding to the chorus of support, another admirer proposed, "They would make a good couple, I can see it happening."
